Monday: Just got back from an 8 day vacation yesterday evening. So they horses have been off and my husband has been in charge of taking care of them. Luckily it looked like he remembered to give the joint supplement everyday. I think it helped that I left the bag on the grain can! Lol. So worked with Teddy first and we did some of the first few groundwork exercises in 30 Days To Round with the walking forward on the lunge line, then bringing him in to bend around while still walking then back out again. Then some bending from standing at the shoulder which he does well but will bend his head but he does give and keep his head there after I release. Then did some walking in hand with the reins and just constantly encouraging him to drop his nose to the ground. After that we did some walk work of just trying to be round. I feel like we got some good steps in of being round with doing circles, figures of 8, serpentines, and ribbon candy but then when I looked at the video it didn’t really look it like. But he felt softer in my hands. Then I was analyzing my position and looks like I go into chair seat a bunch and dont have a straight line from my nonbent elbows to his mouth. Gotta work on those things. Also I was really working on counting the rhythm which I think helped but while riding and definitely while watching the video we need to work on more forward.

Next I worked with Layla. I lunged her to start which means just letting her canter around on the end of the lunge line in both directions. She cantered for several laps then trotted a bunch so not as bad as a blow up as last time. Then we did the same walking on the lunge 30 Days to Round exercise with Teddy with walking forward then walking in a tight circle with her nose to her shoulder. Then we did some energy versus intention Ryan Rose style. She stood still when moving the whip up and down fast but she didnt really like it. She went into a trot and was speeding around when I tried throwing it on her back then taking it off. So i went to just leaving it on her back when walking but she’d jump into a trot and then I’d take it off when she went down to a walk. I then started her in a walk on the lunge then started moving the whip string up and down fast which she did not like at all. She started having a temper tantrum and threatened to rear. Instead of keeping at a walk though she’d stop and face me when I started moving the string. Which is better than freaking out and rearing so I let that be. Then encouraged her to go back to a walk while i kept moving the string. She eventually got it. Then did everything on the other side then figured that was enough for today since we made great progress compared to the last time we tried energy versus intention. She got lots of cookies.
